St. Patrick’s Day Weekend

St. Patrick’s Day Weekend

St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, so most people choose to celebrate early. Everywhere you look, people will be feasting, drinking, and having a merry time. Most of the celebration takes place during the day, so a nice Saturday off is the perfect time to get into the holiday. How will you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? Find a nice parade to participate in, or go out drinking with your buddies. Visit your favorite bar or restaurant, or have a feast at home with family and friends. Whatever you do, don’t forget to wear green!

Why Do We Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

St. Patrick was an Irish patron saint. He is well known for saving Ireland’s population by bringing in Christian values. He established organized churches and missions in the country, effectively spreading the religion to the Irish. We celebrate on March 17th because most believe that he died on that date. The symbolism of the Shamrock is supposed to represent the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He explained the Trinity to the Irish natives, stating that each leaf was separate but whole. The origins of the holiday evolved with time. Nowadays, people celebrate by drinking, feasting, parades, and more. Most people decorate to get into the festivities, adorning their homes with shamrocks, leprechauns, and pots of gold. That type of symbolism may be a split from the religious portion of the holiday. Really, some people just like to have a reason to take time off of work and celebrate.
